Federal criminal charges tend to be more serious than state criminal charges. Many Portland residents have read about federal charges since many reports pertaining to such criminal activities are often seen in the news. Drug-related offenses, white collar crimes such as fraud, child pornography charges, immigration and wildlife offenses are some of the most common federal charges. Federal agents investigate such offenses and press charges against those who are accused.
A 31-year-old transient man was recently arrested on a kidnapping charge in southern Oregon. The apprehension of the kidnapping suspect also led to the arrest of four other people on weapons, drugs and other related charges.
Reports indicate that the suspect apparently kidnapped a 20-year-old woman at knifepoint. The incident happened near a convenience store. The suspect allegedly got into the car and ordered the driver to transport him to a location where he was staying. After a trip of less than one mile, the suspect got out of the car and fled. Police then traced the suspect and found him with four others at a house. All of them were arrested on various charges.
The suspect in this case is facing a serious federal charge: kidnapping. For those arrested in this case on drug charges, it's important to know that methamphetamine charges can sometimes escalate into more serious charges because of the involvement of weapons.
Anyone accused of a federal offense can benefit from seeking the assistance of a legal professional who can vigorously defend their best interests. Once the defendants have found an attorney who understands the complexities of working in a federal court, they can then discuss their case and seek the best possible solution, depending on the nature of the offenses with which they are charged.
