Oregon man pleads not guilty to child pornography allegations

Criminal allegations can severely stain a person's reputation. When the accusation is a federal child pornography crime, the damage can be even more pervasive. A Forest Grove man accused of such a crime and other charges is finding how difficult the situation can be.

The 45-year-old man recently pleaded not guilty to federal child pornography charges. According to prosecutors, the man already has previous sexually-related offenses. He was previously charged in Washington County for sexually abusing three sisters. The man allegedly asked one of the girls to give him naked photos of her. A prosecutor stated that all the federal cases the man is facing will continue separately. A trial has been set for January 12, 2015.

The indictment alleges that the accused produced child pornography outside of the United States from the 2000 to 2013. He allegedly went to the Philippines on various occasions from 2000 to 2010 where he sexually abused minors. In a previous investigation, the man admitted that he extensively traveled outside the United States, including the Philippines, to go on vacation. In the three cases the man is facing, six victims were identified, both girls and boys. Besides the child pornography allegations, the Forest Grove man is also facing charges for invasions of privacy, sodomy, sexual abuse, using a child in a sexually explicit display of conduct, and illegal sexual penetration.

Oregonians in a similar situation have two main options when dealing with the accusations. One is to negotiate for a plea agreement to lessen the charges; the other is to fight the charges head-on. In both cases, an aggressive criminal defense is necessary.
