Oregon man faces multiple counts of child pornography charges
Sex is a sensitive topic and anything in this area involving children in any form of sexual activity is a serious violation of the law. Across the United States, people accused of child pornography charges often face difficult challenges in the trial, and if they are found guilty they can face serious penalties. An ongoing investigation near Portland prompted the arrest of an Oregon man who is now facing multiple counts of child pornography-related charges. Authorities charged the man with 21 counts of second-degree encouraging child sex abuse and two counts of first-degree encouraging child sex abuse. The Oregon Department of Justice is handling the case and cannot provide additional information because of the ongoing investigation.
Because it involves the welfare of children, child pornography is a serious computer crime in the United States. Punishments for computer-related criminal charges depend on several factors, including the evidence recovered. Anyone found guilty of the distribution, production, purchase or possession of child pornography can face serious repercussions, which can include years in prison and thousands of dollars in fines.
In addition, the impact of the charges can go beyond the court proceedings. A person who is convicted on these charges can suffer a badly damaged reputation, which can profoundly affect employment opportunities and the ability to have access to the Internet and join social activities.
Guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Anyone accused of a computer crime can exercise their rights to a trial. Computer crimes need a solid criminal defense because of the important penalties at stake.
