Multiple criminal charges now haunt an elderly Oregon City man

An act that breaks existing laws is a crime. Depending on the criminal charges, a suspect may be punished with hefty fines and imprisonment. In Multnomah, Oregon, people know that offenders can be prosecuted in state or federal courts. For example, suspects facing misdemeanor charges are arraigned in state courts while people accused of federal crimes will have to appear in federal court.

With that said, local residents should understand that suspects are innocent until proven guilty of the crime. Just like normal citizens, suspects have rights that they can exercise. They can defend themselves in court and prove their innocence. If they are successful, they may be able to rebuild their lives that are tarnished by damaging allegations.

An elderly man from Oregon City may need to establish a criminal defense as he is now facing multiple charges that stemmed from a crash. Based on the reports, the 72-year-old man was driving a pickup truck when he allegedly struck another vehicle containing a woman and two children.

One of the children, aged 5 years, suffered facial injuries and was airlifted from the crash. The conditions of his sibling and the woman are unknown.

Authorities stated that alcohol was a factor in the accident. The pickup truck driver was incarcerated and charged with reckless driving; reckless endangerment; second-degree criminal mischief; second-, third- and fourth-degree assault and driving under the influence.

In this case, the suspect may have a hard time if he is convicted of the crime due to his age. A strong criminal defense may be able to save him from serious consequences. One angle that the defense may focus on is the allegation of drunk driving. If the defense team is able to prove that there is no basis for it, the consequences of the case will be much less severe.

In Multnomah, people who are experiencing the same issue can count on an experienced professional to handle the criminal defense case. The hard work and expertise of a legal professional may make all of the difference in the world
